In 1916 the new Standing Liberty Quarter was first issued. In that year and into 1917 the original design showed a bare breast on Lady Liberty. Public outcry quickly forced a revision and subsequent issues had chain mail covering Lady Liberty's chest. The Type I can also be distinguished by the lack of stars beneath the eagle on the reverse. This Type I quarter is particularly well struck and exhibits a full head (FH) on Lady Liberty and champagne iridescent toning.
