1859 Great Britain Florin NGC AU55
With its gothic style script and artful rim decoration this first series florin (1848 to 1887) is known as the "Gothic" florin. With the addition of D.G. and other minor variations over the years between 1851 and 1887 the "Gothic" florin is one of the more sought after coins of the Victorian era.
The gothic script on the obverse includes roman numerals "mdccclix" to indicate the date: 1859.
This 1859 "Gothic" Florin has minimal wear and relatively minor marks on the obverse with almost no marks and significant luster on the reverse. The warm golden toning favorably accentuates the beautiful design.
