1948 Portugal 10 escudos NGC MS65
Portugal's history as a major power through its maritime exploration and colonization is brought to life by the ship shown on the obverse of this 10 escudos coin. This ship design is known as a carrack and they were used for exploration and trade at the height of Portuguese power.
As the world began to recover from World War II, Portugal attempted, and to a considerable degree succeeded, in resuming maritime trade which began to bring a glimmer of economic prosperity to the country.
With a mintage of 507,000 few remain in gem uncirculated condition. NGC lists only 2 examples graded higher than this one.
